Lesson Materials
Lantrip Troupe Lesson Plans
I have been writing lesson plans since I started as a teaching artist for the Lantrip Elementary theatre troupe in 2023. These lessons focus on teaching theatre basics through games and kinesthetic lessons to keep the students engaged.
Movement Lesson Plan
This lesson is designed to help students learn about how, when and why actors move onstage. Before each activity we would discuss the vocabulary necessary to fully understand what they were doing and provide a short demonstration of the activity amongst the TA’s. This lesson plan was one of my favorites I ever made because the students had a lot of fun and were able to recall the vocabulary they had learned throughout the activities. It felt effective and fun!
Characterization Lesson Plan
Creating this lesson plan stretched my abilities as a teacher. I wanted to explore character archetypes in a way that would be digestible for 3rd through 5th graders. I looked back at previous lesson plans to see what the level of complexity was in previous years and collaborated with my fellow teaching artists to ensure that the lesson I created was engaging but easy to follow. In the end it became one of my favorite lessons because it challenged the students in a way that they really enjoyed.

What Is A Study Guide?
Study guides are a collaboration between all Theatre Education students. They are a collection of arts-integrated, TEKs-based lesson plans, interviews with cast and crew, and some extra fun stuff!
Urinetown
By: Greg Kotis
“In the not-so-distant future, a terrible water shortage has led to a crisis! If the poor don’t obey the strict laws prohibiting free urination, they’ll be sent to the dreaded and mysterious “Urinetown.” But the poor stage a revolt, led by a brave young hero, for the freedom to pee “wherever you like, whenever you like, for as long as you like, and with whomever you like.” This Tony Award-winning Broadway favorite is a smart, wickedly funny, satirical romp.” (KGMCA, 2024)
Everything Rises
By: Sage Mitchell
“Everything’s calling Elliot back to Sherwood, Texas. Four years after the death of his best friend, Elliot returns home to give his statement. Through flashes from the past and connections in the present, Elliot faces the grittiness of his grief and finds hope along the way. Everything Rises is an exploration of queer love, life in a small town, found family, and what people are capable of when fueled by hate.” (KGMCA, 2024)
Act On It!
I began my teaching journey as a choreographer in high school, and have only fallen more in love with it every year since. I have been teaching at Stephanie’s School of Dance and Lantrip Elementary since 2023, and am frequently hired to choreograph and teach at local schools in the Houston area.
